INSTRUCTIONS

Describe:

We were tasked with producing a theme-driven abstract motion graphics video that showcased high-quality audiovisual effects. The project encouraged creative freedom, allowing us to explore various formats such as 2D, 3D, mixed media, or other experimental visual approaches, as long as a clear and compelling theme was maintained. In addition to the final output, we were also required to evaluate and reflect on our creative and technical capabilities within a design studio setting, supported by evidence of our design process and decision-making.

Project 4

This assignment requires us to create a 30-60 second short film, including text and animation, to serve as a promotional or storytelling vehicle.

My idea was to create a highlight reel about a film called "My Little Pony." Below is the mood board I put together.

After deciding on the overall style of the film, I began collecting video and image materials and began to integrate and produce the content. My first step was to draw a storyboard based on my storyline to lay the foundation for the subsequent visual presentation.

I specifically watched these films and recorded many of the highlights in them. Then I put these collected videos into AE for editing. I spliced all the videos together, removed the unnecessary parts, and recorded the key moments of each character.

REFLECTION

This Motion Graphic Compositing project deepened my understanding of how visual design and compositing work together. I focused on building a clear rhythm between animation, background, and text, rather than simply combining elements. Through the process, I became more skilled in After Effects techniques like masking, layering, pacing, and transitions, while also learning the value of planning with storyboards and timelines. Most importantly, I began to approach motion graphics with stronger design thinking—considering audience experience and the meaning behind each frame. This project not only strengthened my technical abilities but also boosted my confidence in developing my own visual style.
