3D MODELING
PROJECT 1
INSTRUCTIONS
Project 1 / Hard Surface Modeling
Assignment Requirements:
Select a hard surface object from any of the following categories:
Vehicles
Weapons
Robots
Machines
Based on what you have learned, use polygonal tools and techniques to model the selected object.
Apply the correct materials and textures to give it its appearance.
Set up lighting and rendering using "Eevee"/"Cycle" as the rendering engine.
Use Eevee/Cycle Render (Blender) for final output. Output size is 1280 x 720 in png format.
Inspiration:
The content of Project 1 this time is to choose one of the following to create: robots, cars, weapons, and machines. I chose robots. I am quite interested in modeling in this area, especially robots that use clean energy. I have watched many animations and movies about this, so I want to build a robot in this area. The following is a picture of my inspiration.
Creative process:
Head
Add a cube, scale it into a rectangular shape, and smooth edges with Subdivision Surface.
Add spheres for eyes and use **Inset Faces** for details.
Body
Add another cube, scale it for the torso, and smooth edges with Bevel Modifier.
Arms and Hands
Add cylinders for arms and claws for hands. Mirror the arms for symmetry.
Antenna
Add a cylinder or cone on the head and finish with a sphere on top.
Base
Add a rectangle or flattened cylinder for the robot’s bottom support.
Materials
Assign colors and metallic effects using the **Principled BSDF Shader.
Rendering
Add lights, adjust the camera, and render the scene using Eevee or Cycles.
Quick and effective!
Final Design:
This is my final design
REFLECTION
In this 3D modeling project, I learned a lot about the basics of 3D modeling, especially how to convert 2D designs into 3D models. At the beginning, I was not very familiar with 3D modeling software and had some difficulties in operating it, especially how to use the sculpting and topology tools. After some practice, I gradually mastered the basic skills.
In this process, the teacher gave me a lot of help. When I encountered problems, the teacher patiently answered my questions about the use of tools and taught me how to adjust the proportions and details of the models to make them more balanced and coordinated. The teacher also reminded me to pay attention to the light and shadow effects when rendering, which is very important for the final effect.
Although the process was a bit challenging, with the help of the teacher, I solved the problems and learned a lot. This project made me understand 3D modeling better, and I look forward to continuing to improve my skills in future projects.
