3D MODELING

FINAL  PROJECT

INSTRUCTIONS

Final Project  / Character Modeling

Assignment Requirements:

You need to make an organic 3D model of the character based on the model sheet. The sample images shown are for reference and demonstration only. You can search for image references and model sheets of your favorite characters.

Based on what you have learned, model the character using polygonal tools and techniques.
Apply the right materials and textures to give it a look.

Apply three point lighting and render.

Use Eevee or Cycle render for final output. The output size is 1280 x 720 in png format.

Inspiration:

The scope of the final project is quite broad. Since Project 1 left such a deep impression on me, I wanted to build a robot model again. For this reason, I searched the Internet for three-view drawings of robot modeling and found a particularly good one, which brought new inspiration to my creation. The following is a picture of my inspiration source.

Creative process:

Determine the design: First I determine the basic design of the Kitten Robot's appearance, referring to the three views of the Kitten Robot I found

Design elements: Consider the robot's shell, joints, facial features and robotic details (such as metal texture, mechanical joints)

Add basic shapes: In Blender, use "Shift + A" to add basic shapes, such as "Cube" as the basic shape of the body and "Sphere" to create the head

Scale and adjust: Scale these shapes with the "S" key to make them fit the proportions of the Kitten Robot

Use subdivision surfaces: To get a smooth shape, you can apply the subdivision surface modifier to the basic shapes. After selecting the model, press "Ctrl + 2" to apply the subdivision surface and adjust the details.

Sculpt head details: By entering "Sculpt Mode", use sculpting tools to modify the details of the head, such as the shape of the ears and the contours of the face.

Modeling limbs: Use cylinders to create the robot cat's limbs. Adjust their proportions so that the limbs look like cat paws and are in line with the robot style.

Add joints: Use small circles or spheres to represent robot joints, adjust their positions and connect them to the limbs. You can apply "Mirror Modifier" to ensure symmetry between the left and right sides.

Adjust details: Add some mechanical details, such as connecting parts, buttons or cables.

Add mechanical details: Add a sense of technology to the robot kitten by adding small parts

Apply metal texture material: Enter the view and set metal materials for the robot body and limbs. You can adjust parameters such as reflectivity and roughness to make the robot look more technological.

Set up lighting: Use different light sources, such as ambient light, spotlights, etc., to highlight the mechanical details of the robot cat.

Rendering settings: Select a suitable rendering engine (such as Cycles or Eevee), set the resolution and sampling, and make the final rendering. Adjust the material and light and shadow to show the metallic and delicate texture of the robot cat.

Post-production adjustment: After the rendering is completed, enter the "Compositing" mode and make necessary post-production adjustments to increase the brightness, contrast and color to enhance the expressiveness of the picture.

Final Design:

REFLECTION

In this final project, my goal was to 3D model a character that I liked. This process not only gave me a deep understanding of the technology of 3D modeling, but also allowed me to improve my attention to details and expression during the creation process.

First, when choosing a character, I considered multiple factors, including the complexity of the character's design and my love for the character. I finally chose a character with a unique personality and shape, and wanted to restore its features as much as possible. During the modeling process, I started with the head and gradually built the rest of the body. Although this character has many details, I tried to be as detailed and accurate as possible in each part.

The teacher taught me how to use sculpting tools and how to use reference images to help compare and ensure the accuracy of details. After each part was completed, the teacher would give me feedback and point out where I could make better adjustments to help me improve step by step.

In terms of rendering and material settings, the teacher helped me better understand how to add realism to the model through appropriate lighting and materials. In the end, the rendering effect of the character was much better than I expected.

In summary, this character modeling project not only improved my technical skills, but also enhanced my creativity and attention to details. Although the process was a bit difficult, with the guidance of the teacher and my own continuous efforts, I finally completed a model that satisfied me. This project made me realize that 3D modeling is not only a technical challenge, but also an expression of art and creativity. I look forward to applying these experiences to future creations.
