Design

Design theme

Among the seventeen themes I chose Goal 6. Ensure water and sanitation are available and sustainably managed for all.I also conceived three sketches for this themed poster. Below are my thoughts on my design sketches.

1.

    For the first design sketch, my design inspiration came from the design works of the artist Benjamin. He created art works in the form of posing. I wanted to create it in the form of panel drawing, so I referred to his mermaids. For the design work, I placed the mermaid in the middle of the sea water next to all kinds of garbage so that people can see it at a glance.

   The design idea of the second work is to use the sea water as a dividing line. Above the sea water is the upper body of the fish with its mouth open to bite the hook. Below the sea water is the fish connected to the sea water. Plastic bottles are used to replace the upper body of the fish. , I think this is not only creative but also has a certain ironic meaning, warning people to take care of the marine environment, otherwise marine life may really turn into a monster that is half fish and half garbage in the end.

My design idea for the third picture is that all the fish are in a bottle filled with pure water. The outside of the bottle is full of garbage and dirty seawater. The fish inside are miserable and trapped in a narrow space, but they are no longer there. Home, there is only garbage around. I feel this can also be a good reminder to people to care for water resources and the environment.

Final Design

This is my final design. I listened to the teacher’s advice and put the mermaid in a bottle filled with pure water, and the pure water in this bottle was the last bit in the world. The bottle was surrounded by garbage and Polluted sea water.

Feedback：

week6: 

This week I showed the teacher the three sketches I designed. The teacher asked me to combine the first mermaid and the third small fish in a bottle. This would be more innovative. If there is a single mermaid in the middle, It’s all rubbish and the picture displayed is too ordinary.

week7：This week is the last week. I showed my final design to the teacher and then finished writing the blog.

Reflection

     The Design Principles module was a completely new experience for me. I decided to try something new and signed up for a Creative Media course as my minor and chose the Design Principles module. Through this module I gained a lot of knowledge in design theory by learning to apply fundamental principles to create high quality designs. However, the values I learned are equally important. I was taught time management as we needed to follow a tight schedule to complete 3 tasks in 7 weeks. It was challenging to provide visible progress each week, however, I learned to develop a personal schedule and priority management, which guided me to achieve satisfactory results throughout the semester.
