Task 2 visual analysis
INSTRUCTIONS
Submission Requirement:
1. Recap Task 2 brief
2. Write a 300- to 350-word visual analysis of the selected design (refer to Visual Analysis lecture notes and guide).
3. Include reference links where applicable.
1. Observe:
This art work is composed horizontally. In the picture, a woman dressed as a mermaid is lying on her side in the sea water, with one hand raised as if she is swimming in the sea water. If you look closely, you can see that the sea water around the woman is Made of plastic bottles, plastic bottles of different colors are used to create the appearance of sea water flowing. The main colors of the entire work are gray blue, dark green, white, and tooth yellow. Overall, it is a relatively harmonious design. In particular, some swirling organic lines were used to observe the position of the sea water. Later, when looking at the entire picture, the surrounding areas are darker than the middle and the middle is brighter. It should be that the author wanted to highlight the main part of the entire picture.
2. Analysis:
The design of this work of art gives me the impression of a sporty design principle. Lines made of plastic bottles of different colors are used to modify a series of fluid seawater. The movements of the characters in the picture also follow the flow direction of the seawater. Poses in the same direction, coupled with some body movements, make the picture more harmonious and natural. There are also some Asymmetrical balanced designin this work of art based on the principle of balance. The tone and layout of the entire picture are the same, which provides It provides more visual diversity. Even if the surroundings of the picture do not look exactly the same, it gives people a sense of balance and harmony. In the end, there is some closure principle. In terms of tone, the edges are darker but The light becomes brighter as it moves towards the center, thus embodying the role of the central subject.
3. INTERPRETATION:
This artwork was created by artist Benjamin on August 14, 2017. Benjamin used 10,000 plastic bottles to create the effect of the ocean. They spent a whole day using plastic bottles of different colors to piece together the depth of the sea water, and then added mermaid models with special makeup to shoot this group of "Mermaids Hate Plastic" "We hope that the whole world will pay attention to protecting water resources and the marine environment. The reason why I chose this artwork is because the author’s concept of creating this artwork is the same as the module I chose to protect water resources and the environment. In addition, these are his other design works that are also related to protecting the marine environment.Feedback:
week4: This week, the teacher looked at my take1 and take2 and told me that I need to boldly highlight the design principles mentioned in the article, and then the third part will also be about other works in this series in addition to the original work.
week5:This week the teacher looked at my task1 and task2 and asked me to make up for my extracurricular reading.
Extracurricular Reading
- Culture and design are inextricably linked. The origin of design begins with creation, which marks the birth of culture. On the one hand, the history of design is supporting the generation of culture; on the other hand, design is constantly creating the cultural world.
- What is culture? British anthropologist Taylor believes: "Culture or civilization, in its broad national sense, includes knowledge, beliefs, art, morals, laws, customs, and the abilities and habits acquired by any person as a member of society. A complex whole." Soviet scholar Kagan believes: "Culture is the sum of various ways and products of human activities, including the scope of material production, spiritual production and artistic production, that is, including the entire richness of human activity forms in society." American anthropologist Franz Boaz divided culture into three categories: material culture, social relations, art, religion, ethics and other aspects. It can be seen that culture contains different aspects, and the interpretation of culture is also multi-faceted and multi-angle. No matter what the angle is, in a general sense they all admit that material culture is the most basic cultural form in human culture and a subsystem of the cultural system. Culture is essentially "humanization", that is, human labor-the essential power of human beings. objectification.
- The artistic design that begins with creation has two properties: one is matter; the other is consciousness. They belong to matter because from utensils to buildings, from tools to utensils, all items of clothing, food, shelter, transportation, and use have the same material attributes as natural objects; they belong to consciousness because they are different from natural objects, and they are based on human consciousness. What is created is artificial and is inevitably connected with human needs, social values and other aspects.
- As the basic form of a large cultural category, art design is first of all material, but the design process is to design various forms of cultural content, because design is the appearance of products composed of conceptual ideas, and the visible and output material products are just The purpose and results of the entire design process.
- The design process is not only guided by human needs and based on social values, but also integrates production methods, lifestyle and other aspects, and finally integrates culture into the artifacts under the balance of content and form, function and value.
